We enjoy singing a wonderful variety of traditional choral works, as well as music by 20th century and more contemporary composers. Here are some of the works we've sung recently:
- Handel Messiah (first sung in 1867!)
- Elgar Dream of Gerontius and Music Makers
- Vivaldi Gloria and Magnificat
- Haydn The Creation
- Bach Magnificat
- Fauré Requiem
- Walton Belshazzar's Feast
- Mozart Requiem
- Verdi Requiem
- Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle
- Britten St. Nicolas Cantata
- Rutter Mass of the Children
- Karl Jenkins Requiem and The Armed Man
- Will Todd Mass in Blue
- Poulenc Gloria
This list is typical of the wide ranging repertoire we perform (see our complete repertoire). You can see how often we've sung the 'great' works since 1866 in the Archives section.
In 2000, we commissioned a work by Will Todd called Song of Creation. In 2011, we performed another of his pieces namely Mass in Blue.
The music we sing is challenging but immensely enjoyable as it comes together gradually during the course of rehearsals. The sense of achievement after a concert performance is unbelievable!
